Adventure in the Country

Pine Mountain

Hello again from Pine Mountain. It has been a cloudy week on the mountain. The Sun has been hiding with only an hour or two of sun in the late afternoon. Today it is even raining. It is ten degrees colder than normal and it feels like we are going back into winter instead of heading into summer. Here at the ranch we have our own power. It is furnished by our 2 wind turbines and our water turbine. We also have a few solar panels that charge up a battery bank. Our horizontal turbine looks like a small wingless airplane on top of it’s 80 foot tower. We purchased that one from http://www.bergey.com/. Our vertical turbine we purchased from http://www.pacwind.net/, and our water turbine in the dam of our pond came from an Alaskan alternative energy company http://www.absak.com/. There have been calm days and windy days this week. Even on a calm day we have been able to produce more energy with our wind turbines than we use.

I spent the day working in my attached greenhouse. It is nice to have the greenhouse. No matter what the weather is outside it is still nice inside. I have the greenhouse arraigned in stages. Each stage is about a month behind the stage next to it. That way I always have fresh vegetables.

Squeekers my African grey parrot came out to help. He likes to walk up and down the rows looking for worms. Squeekers has a knack for saying the obvious. I had one of the windows opened before it started to rain. When the rain started coming down, Squeekers was eating peanuts from his peanut bin over by the window. The rain started coming in the window and dripping on Squeekers. Squeekers started talking, “ Wet, Wet help me, help me.” I went over and shut the window. I told him he was a silly bird that did not even know how to get out of the rain. Squeekers then marched down the row saying, “ silly bird, silly bird.”

This week we have an adventure in the country. First we have our usual sections, Alternative energy, Nutrition and Health, Traveling for Less, and Adventure and Treasure Hunting.

Alternative Energy

Do you like to tinker in the garage and build useful inventions? Today energy costs are going through the roof. More and more people are looking for ways to spend less on energy and reduce costs. A good place to start is the book called the alternative energy bible. This book shows and tells you how to can produce your own energy in easy inexpensive projects. Go to http://deserthab.offgrid07.hop.clickbank.net/ and get your copy while they are still available.

The price of fuel keeps going up in price. Everyone is looking for anything that will increase fuel economy even a little. There is a way to improve your mileage, increase your horsepower, and reduce your emissions all at the same time. You will be able to turn your vehicle into a fuel efficient one with only a few readily available items from your local hardware. The instructions are easy to follow and there are many diagrams so you can see how to do it too. It does not matter if you have a gasoline or diesel engine vehicle it will work with either one. Go to http://deserthab.water4gas.hop.clickbank.net/ to learn more while supplies last.

Do you want to increase your fuel economy? An environmentally safe non toxic product called Ethos will do just that. It improves gas economy by reformulating your gasoline to allow more air to be mixed with the fuel vapor. This causes cleaner combustion and increases power. Your fuel burns more completely and thus produces less emissions. All you have to do is add a couple ounces per tank of gasoline or diesel fuel. Go to http://www.mygassaver.net/

Nutrition and Health

These days everyone is concerned about nutrition and health. Most of our food is over processed and has very little nutrient value. Our food looks great but not much more. If we want to stay healthy in today’s world we are forced to take supplements. The question is: What supplements will provide what you need for the least amount of time and money? I believe one of the best supplements out there is called acaiplus. It is a blend of vitamins and minerals plus acai to promote health and long life. They also have vitamins to help improve your long term and short term memory. They also have an energy drink that gives you steady long term energy. To learn more about these products go to

Adventure in The Country

Sometimes you just need to get away. There is a legend of the old west about an old miner named flapjack Sam. This miner had a hidden gold mine in the hills of southern California. Once a month flapjack Sam would come into town to buy supplies and he would have a bag of gold nuggets with him. Everyone would ask him if they could come and see his gold mine. Sam would laugh and say, “ Only my partner Jake and I will ever find the mine.” People would ask, “ who is Jake?” Flapjack Sam would laugh and say, “ Jake and his kin are my guards.” Flapjack Sam would load up his supplies. He always bought extra flour and took at least a gallon of milk with him. Everyone would kid him about the milk but Flapjack Sam would just laugh and say, “The milk is for Jake he is my pet rattlesnake. He likes his milk in a saucer.” This went on for years. Many people tried to find Flapjack Sam’s mine but nobody ever did. Many tried to follow him but Sam would always lose them in the hills. Finally after more than twenty years, Flapjack Sam did not come into town for his monthly supplies. The towns people searched the hills for him but nothing was ever found. The legend grew over the years and people say when you are out in the hills camping for the night and a cool wind blows, you can hear Flapjack Sam laughing at you on the wind.

I went camping last summer back in the hills. I took Squeekers my African grey parrot with me. I drove my old 4 wheel drive camper and went way out in the back country. I needed my 4 wheel drive just to get through an old rutted trail. Finally I set up camp on top of a hill. Large boulders surrounded me and made a natural wind break. Squeekers and I took a walk. Squeekers rode on my shoulder. We came to a steep hill, I slipped on the loose dirt and fell down the hill. Squeekers flew off my shoulder then walked back over to me to see if I was okay. Squeekers looked at me and then he said, “ Dumb ass.” Then he laughed at me with his parrot laugh. I got up dusted myself off and then put Squeekers back on my shoulder. I was almost back to my camper when I saw the rattlesnake by the side of the trail. Squeekers and I gave the snake a wide berth then I told Squeekers , “that must be Jake.”

That night the wind started to blow as the full moon came out. The coyotes were howling on the hilltops. I thought I could almost hear flapjack Sam laughing at me. We stayed a few more days but I did not find any gold mine.

Pine Mountain

Well it is evening again on the mountain and I am sitting in my easy chair by the fire in my fireplace. Squeekers the parrot is sitting on his perch chomping peanuts. Tonights coffee of choice is African Safari from http://www.coffeefool.com/.
Tanzanian Peaberry, Kenya AA, Ethiopian, and Zambian Terranova come together to create a blend worth getting lost in. I finish my coffee andI put Squeekers in his cage, turn off the fireplace and head off to bed. Good night all see you next week.
